The 151st football contest between Lafayette and Lehigh is upon us. Although not quite the same as last year’s event in NYC, this year’s game promises to be a nice backdrop for our last Delt Tailgate of the 2015 season.
I’ve been working since last weekend with the Grillmaster, John Plumeri, to ensure that we will finish the year with a tailgate to remember and cap off the 2015 Lafayette football season. As always, the Grillmaster will be ably assisted by his clan, including Barmaster John Jr.
We plan/hope to set up the tailgate in the same spot we have used for the past three tailgates out at Lehigh. It is at the very beginning of one of the main rows of parking after entering the primary parking lot at the crest of the hill (about the highest point in the lot). Folks who have been with us the past few years should remember it – we have a grass median behind us which affords some additional room; we will have the purple & gold Delt flag flying about 20’ high atop John’s telescoping flag pole.
After staking out space for about 10 cars, we’ll raise the purple & gold DTD flag and fly it high above the command post. Those present at Lehigh 2011 and 2013 will remember that this worked well and enabled folks to find us easily. I will also be reachable by my cell phone (973-769-4593). Thus we should have the landing squads in place and holding down contested real estate by 8:00 am or so, and the Plumeri chuck wagon in operation for the early arrivals.
Our menu will include the usual fare, although perhaps with a slightly more breakfast slant … lot’s of John’s signature pork roll to be sure J, another cooked ham, the standard burgers, dogs, sausages, dips and the like.
We certainly hope that President Byerly and Steve Jensen can find us – give me a shout on my cell phone if you are looking for us.
Have already heard from a number of folks who are definitely making the early morning assault on enemy grounds, including Pete Ramsey, Tom O’Connor, Scott Beisler, Pete Gummeson, Brian Hendrix, Dave Leiby, Gerry Oberrender, Frank Phifer and Nu's President Oscar Huettner … of course that is only a small sample of the Delt Brotherhood that is invited to our tailgate.
Kick-off for the 151st clash is scheduled for 12:30; so plan to get to the tailgate by 9:00 or so – we will be fully mobilized and ready for operations by then.
The plan is of course fluid and subject to changing instantly as the situation and the weather dictates … stay in touch and be ready to adapt on the fly !
